Florence, Pistoia, & Chianti

On the evening of Oct. 10th a bunch of the girls in the group went out for a little girls night out at the Mexican restaurant in Florence! I had almost forgotten what it was like to taste something spicy! I had a prickly pear margarita and some enchiladas and it was fabulous! The next day I spent a great morning exploring Florence with Monica and Emily. We found perhaps one of the best gelato spots in Florence. They have PEANUT BUTTER GELATO! It may have been one of the happiest moments of my life. I have missed peanut butter so much! We sat outside and enjoyed one of the last warm days in Florence. That afternoon I embarked on quite the adventure. Our great friends the Gianninis told me about a friend they have who lives near Florence, Giancarlo. After a few awkward phone calls (he speaks minimal English and my Italian is still a work in progress) we made a plan to meet at the train station in Pistoia where he lives. I found him right away as he was proudly wearing an Albuquerque tee-shirt! He and his daughter showed me around their little town and I had a great afternoon with them! Friday morning a small group of us went with our RD to Chianti for a wine tasting. It is SO beautiful there and the little place where we went was adorable. I loved seeing more of Italy! It was a great weekend!

Prickly pear margarita!

Peanut butter gelato! Best thing ever!

I have loved making so many new friends on this trip.

And speaking of new friends... This is Giancarlo and his granddaughter.

This was the main piazza in Pistoia.

Hooray for wine tasting :)

Delicious dessert that he had for us!

So many different wines!

Very official.

Random boar head from outside.

This guy wanted me to kiss it.... That wasn't gonna happen.

Lovely Church in Chianti.
